Jessica den Outer "Empathy in Law: Rights of Nature"
Meet Jessica Den Outer, a passionate advocate for the Rights of Nature. With expertise recognized by the United Nations Harmony with Nature program in 2019, Jessica is dedicated to combining her love for nature with her interest in law.
“We have to change our worldview and ask ourselves: what does nature need and how can we represent those needs?”
About the speaker
In her inspiring speech, “Empathy in Law: Rights of Nature,” Jessica will introduce us to the fastest-growing legal movement of the 21st century: the Rights of Nature. She’ll explore why humans have rights, but the rest of nature does not, and why companies can act as legal persons, but rivers, forests, and mountains cannot. Attendees will gain insight into indigenous perspectives on nature and the vital role that law can play in advancing this movement.
Jessica’s commitment to this cause spans writing, speaking, education, and advocacy. In the spring of 2023, she published her book ‘Rechten voor de Natuur’ (Lemniscaat), sharing inspiring stories from the global Rights of Nature movement.
Recently, Jessica gave a keynote about Rights of Nature on Love Tomorrow 2024 of Tomorrowland. Check it out here!
